  Millstone recognized as a leader for the environment


MILLSTONE — The township has earned recognition as a leading community in the state for environmental protection.

The Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association presented Millstone Township with a “Leadership Award for Environmental Protection” at its annual meeting on April 25 for the community’s “outstanding efforts to preserve and protect the environment.”

The Watershed Association recognized Millstone Township for its recent adoption of an ordinance that protects threatened and endangered species, the first ordinance of its kind in New Jersey. The association also recognized the township’s woodlands protection ordinance and successful open space preservation program.

The association’s executive director, Jim Waltman, and board Chair Lorraine Sciarra presented the award. The township’s Mayor Nancy Grbelja, Open Space and Farmland Preservation Commission Chair Pat Butch, and Environmental Commission Chair Eric Davis, Secretary Marianne Heyesey and member Barry Frost accepted the award on the community’s behalf.
