What is the Office of Emergency Management?

A group of volunteers who donate their time and effort to coordinate operations in cases of emergency and respond at any time be it day or night.

EMERGENCY is defined as any event which threatens to, or actually does, inflict damage to property or people.

MANAGEMENT is defined as the coordination of an organized effort to attain specific goals or objectives. In emergency management MANAGEMENT means an organized effort to mitigate against, prepare for, respond to and recover from an emergency.

There are four phases of emergency management; mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.

MITIGATION refers to activities which actually eliminate or reduce the chance of occurrence or the effects of a disaster.

PREPAREDNESS is planning how to respond in case an emergency or disaster occurs and working to increase resources available to respond effectively.

RESPONSE activities occurring during and immediately following a disaster. They are designed to provide emergency assistance to victims of the event and reduce the likelihood of secondary damage.

RECOVERY is the final phase of the emergency management cycle. Recovery continues until all systems return to normal or near normal.

* Short term recovery returns vital life support systems to minimum operating standards.
* Long term recovery from a disaster may go on for many years until the entire disaster is completely redeveloped, either as it was in the past or for entirely new purpose that are less disaster prone.

Just like the volunteers of the Millstone Township Fire Department and volunteers of the Millstone Township First Aid Squad. The appointed volunteers of the Millstone Township Office of Emergency Management have completed many hours of training at County, State and Federal Government levels. The training for the Millstone Township Fire Department, Millstone Township First Aid Squad and Millstone Township Office of Emergency Management continues day after day month after month year after year. The residence of Millstone Township should be thankful for the volunteers who dedicate their time and effort for their well being and should support them in their efforts to better serve the Township of Millstone.
